St. Nicholas Avenue begins at the north end of Central Park and Sixth Avenue, runs on a westward diagonal, and crosses Seventh and Eighth Avenues after it forks. One branch, called Manhattan Avenue, runs west to the river. The other branch turns north. On the Towle Plan, St. Nicholas meanders to the north end of Manhattan. This view looks north from the intersection of Broadway, at left, and the now straightened out St. Nicholas Avenue, at right.
