This photograph shows the old Snake Hill, the rocky landscape that led in 1836 to abandonment of the grid on this spot and its designation as a park. The Mount Morris Watchtower is visible on the hilltop. Erected in 1857, it is the only surviving cast-iron structure from the city’s early fire-fighting infrastructure.
